JOHOR BHARU – Johor Football Association (PBNJ) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim today explained that his action in kicking a corner flag post after the end of the Malaysia Cup second leg quarter-final match at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium here last night was an expression of celebrating Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT)’s win.
The Tunku Mahkota of Johor (TMJ) said the action was something normal for a human and a sports enthusiast in his expression of joy.
“It is my way of showing satisfaction with the results, more so after JDT was confronted with various speculation in the past one week or more,” he told reporters here today.
He was commenting on the criticisms by some quarters on his action after the matched ended with JDT beating Terengganu 3-1.
In this regard, Tunku Ismail questioned the action of a private television station which only showed him kicking the flag post as it could lead to misunderstanding among local football fans.
According to him, the media should be responsible in broadcasting the matter accurately to avoid any implications.
Meanwhile, Tunku Ismail also announced that PBNJ had signed a cooperation agreement with Borussia Dortmund of the German League to develop football in the state which encompassed the development of a football academy at Kulaijaya, loaning instructors and sending young players to gain exposure with the club.
He stressed that the agreement showed the club had confidence in the capability of PBNJ.
On Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s decision contest for a seat in the International Football Federation (FIFA) executive committee, Tunku Ismail said he gave his full support as it would help advance the overall quality of football. – BERNAMA
