KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin has called on Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to consider a reduction in the electricity tariff in line with the drop in the fuel price currently.
Khairy, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, said this in his latest entry in his Facebook website.
“At the same time, TNB should probably consider reducing the electricity tariff. Recently they had asked the Cabinet to raise the tariff because of the rise in fuel cost. Now, it has come down,” he said.
In the same Facebook entry, Khairy said in the midst of the fuel price reduction, consumers should play their role and pressure the traders to reduce prices of goods.
“I believe the important message is the power of the consumers. Use your power as consumers. Engage with consumer groups and activists. Name and shame traders who charge exorbitant prices on the social media,” he said.
Khairy said he had directed the Umno Youth Quality of Life Bureau to forgecooperation with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on consumerism to raise public awareness on their power as consumers.
He said Umno Youth would also cooperate with the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) to identify shops which were selling goods at fair and reasonable prices.
“These shops will be recognised as ‘fair price shops’ under the KPDNKK and will be promoted,” he added. – BERNAMA
