ALOR SETAR – The hot weather and strong winds during the ride from Kuala Perlis to Masjid Zahir could not stop Khairil Aslan Ab Rashid from continuing his solo cycling expedition called “Dari Masjid Ku Menjelajah”.
Khairil Aslan, 42, who arrived in Kuala Perlis at 11.30am yesterday started cycling as far as 50 kilometres to reach Masjid Zahir, Alor Setar, at about 10am.
“I am thankful that nothing bad happened unlike in Langkawi on Monday when the rear tyre of my bicycle came off. The hot weather and a heavy downpour one kilometre from Masjid Zahir are just small challenges.
“The strong winds while riding across padi fields made it quite difficult but I managed,” he told Bernama here, today.
Khairil Aslan stopped at Masjid Zahir for ‘zohor’ (noon) prayers before continue cycling 70 kilometers to reach Sungai Petani town.
Despite the fatigue, Khairil Aslan said he was delighted to meet with the local population who were friendly and generous with their knowledge on the history of the mosques.
“Yesterday, I stopped at Masjid Terapung in Perlis and was told of its history. A man also accompanied me by cycling to the Perlis border with Kedah this morning.
Next stop will be Sungai Petani, Kedah followed by Grik, Perak and Jeli, Kelantan.
Khairil Aslan who began his or 30-day expedition on April 16 at Masjid Bandar Seri Putra, Bangi, hopes to end the expedition at the same mosque on May 12 . – BERNAMA
