KEMAMAN – The Kemaman district flood management plan will become the model for the standard operating procedure (SOP) for floods in the affected areas in future, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Wednesday.
He said the flood management here had reached the standard management goal whether at the preparation stage before the floods, during the floods or after the floods.
“The flood management in Kemaman district had set the target to achieve the flood management level specified, a level that is very high. I am told that the Kemaman district succeeded in achieving the standard targeted. Congratulations to everyone,” he told reporters after listening to the briefing on flood management for the Kemaman Parliamentary constituency at the Dewan Berlian, Kemaman Municipal Council, here.
Also present were Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, and Army Chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.
Earlier, Najib was given a briefing on the floods by Air Putih State Assemblyman Wan Abdul Hakim Wan Mokhtar for 10 minutes to find out the current situation on the floods.
Looking at the Kemaman flood management that was very encouraging, Najib wanted to propose that the Kemaman flood management SOP model be adopted for other areas that were also experiencing the floods.
He said he was impressed by the initiative taken by the Kemaman parliamentary constituency handled by Ahmad Shabery who had made early preparation since April to improve the model.
“Several additions such as the helipad, 30 forward base depots, the TM exchange had been raised so that it would be above the water level, additional gensets (generator sets) as well as other facilities including sleeping bags which appear to cater for a very effective flood administration.
“I want to suggest that the template for the Kemaman model can be adopted in other places too,” he added. – BERNAMA
