KOTA BARU: Citing work overload, Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said he would “politely” decline the post of PAS spiritual leader following the death of Datuk Dr Haron Din.
Ahmad said he would not accept the post even if the party’s highest body, Syura Council, appointed him.
“I believe I am holding to many positions and suffice to say I like being the second in command as it is.
“I hope the Syura Council picks someone else for the post as here are many senior PAS members who are fit to fill the post,” Ahmad, who is now acting spiritual leader, told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting on Wednesday.
Media reports said Ahmad was the most suitable candidate to replace Dr Haron, who passed away in the United States last week.
“I think there are other able and experience senior PAS members who are suitable but I cannot say it as it tantamounts to campaigning but I am very sure those who had been selected for the post will do a good job,” Ahmad said.
