KOTA BHARU – Kelantan head coach Zahasmi Ismail is still unhappy with his team’s display despite beating UiTM FC in a Malaysia Cup match at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, here last night.
Zahasmi said the players have to make vast improvement in the remaining five Group C matches if they want to advance to the next level.
“If the players do not improve their game over time, Kelantan will face difficulties and may see their Malaysia Cup challenge fizzle out in the group stage,” he told reporters after the match.
In the match, Kelantan beat UiTM FC 3-1 with two goals from midfielder Mohd Khairul Izuan Rosli while another goal was scored by their foreign striker from Lebanon, Abou Bakr Al-Mel.
UiTM’s consolation goal was scored by their foreign striker from Nigeria, Akanni Sunday Wasiu.
Zahasmi said Abou Bakr and their other foreign striker from Brazil, Alessandro Padovani Celin, have yet to show compatibility in attack and to gel with the other players.
“They find it difficult to score goals due to the lack of friendly matches. The duo must be given the opportunity and time to improve and contribute something positive to the team,” he added.
Meanwhile, UiTM FC head coach Wan Mustaffa Wan Ismail was disappointed with his team’s strikers who only scored one goal in the match against Kelantan.
“UiTM FC players need to recover fast because they will meet two more teams from the Super League in the form of Kedah and Melaka United.
“Last night’s loss to Kelantan should serve as a lesson to the players who have to face get past five more Malaysia Cup group stage matches,” he added. – BERNAMA
