MOTUL Yamaha YY Pang manager, Pang Yoke You has warned his riders to keep their battles clean ahead of the penultimate round of the 2014 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at Jempol, Negeri Sembilan this weekend.
YY Pang has every reason to be pleased with his riders’ performance taking eight straight wins in the CP115 battle this season but things took a wrong turn in the previous leg in Kangar when Zaidy Mohd Zaifaizal and Tengku Amirul Haffiruddin crashed out of the race while battling for the podium –indicating an internal rivalry brewing in the all-red garage.
As a result, Zaidy lost his lead in the overall standings to his other teammate, Mohd Izzat Zaidi Salehan who won the 15-lap race. Izzat now leads the table with 153 points while the former drops down to second with 139 points followed by Tengku Amirul third, 113 points.
“Our riders are very competitive. That can be a good thing but sometimes it can be bad and in Kangar we witnessed the latter. Naturally there will always be rivalry between teammates because after all they are the first one you must beat in a race… but to have both riders from the same team crashing out together, that is unacceptable,†said YY Pang.
“We have reminded them countless times, the team comes first, but truth is when they are out on track, that’s not what they are thinking about. It’s about winning the race and ultimately the title, and this is where we need to manage them in the right way, reminding them what’s important for us. But it’s not always easy,†he added.
“The crash in Kangar was a huge blow to our campaign but fortunately both Zaidy and Tengku Amirul have enough points to cushion the impact. I hope both of them have learned their lesson. Keep the racing clean and don’t take unnecessary risks because motorcycle racing is a dangerous sport,†concluded YY Pang.
