ALOR SETAR – Hungary is impressed with Kedah’s vision and achievements in developing the state’s economy and infrastructure.

Hungarian Ambassador to Malaysia, Attila Kali said Kedah had a lot of interesting upcoming developments in infrastructure and manufacturing, and these developments can form the basis of greater economic cooperation between the state and Hungary moving forward.

“We like what we saw and are very impressed by the state’s vision…I really like the opportunities available for foreign investors. We realise that we must have deeper cooperation to ensure these opportunities are taken up to ensure long-term success,” he told Bernama in an interview here today.

Attila said there was interest to collaborate with Kedah in areas such as water management and healthcare, and such collaborations would be mutually beneficial and included technology transfers.

“We will follow up after this visit for further discussions. We are looking at technology transfers and how our experts can work together with those from the state.

“We see the possibility of Hungarian companies sharing and introducing their technologies here,” he said.

The ambassador said more visits to Kedah were being planned for in-depth discussions on future cooperation and investments.

“We definitely want to make more visits to Kedah. I think we want deeper cooperation and a single visit is not sufficient. This visit is a good beginning and a good introduction. Now we know and understand each other better.

“Later on, we will need to bring in Hungarian companies to see the state for themselves, meet with their counterparts, identify areas of interest and start direct discussions,” he added.

Attila declared that his two-day official visit to Kedah was both fruitful and successful, having found both the state and its people to be friendly.

Earlier, the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah granted an audience to Attila at Istana Anak Bukit here. He was accompanied by the Hungarian Embassy’s Head of the Office of Economic Affairs, Dr Emilia Fabian.

Yesterday, Attila called on Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at Wisma Darul Aman and attended a briefing on the Kedah and Hungary Business Forum at the Invest Kedah Office. – BERNAMA
