SHAH ALAM – The lineup of players for Selangor will not face any pressure but they are in fact excited to host Kedah in the Malaysia Cup final at Shah Alam Stadium, tomorrow night.
Team captain Shahrom Kalam said the players would not feel pressured as the strength of the squad was not dependent on individuals but on the overall capability of the team.
“All players know their respective roles. We are also not facing any pressure and we are in fact excited that we have qualified for the final,” he told a media conference here today.
According to him, even though they are not under pressure playing on home ground, they would not take Kedah lightly as the Red Eagles have strikers capable of causing trouble at their goal.
Therefore, Selangor defenders have the heavy task of warding off any attempts by their opponents, he said.
Meanwhile, Kedah captain, Khairul Helmi Johari said his team had ironed out several weaknesses by focusing on the defence.
“We will also be not giving Selangor room to launch any deadly attacks,” he said at the joint media conference.
Both teams met in the same final in 2008 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil in which Kedah won 3-2.
Selangor last lifted the Malaysia Cup 10 years ago in 2005 and they are now on a mission to realise their 33rd victory in the Malaysia Cup series. – BERNAMA
