ALOR SETAR – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir has urged Muslims to cooperate with the government to make the unity and consolidation agenda a success in line with Allah’s degree for Muslim unity.
He said that though efforts to forge unity took time, the people had to show a level of maturity based on the values of mutual respect.
“I urge people from all walks of life to strengthen unity in facing the challenges of the future,” he said when opening the 36th national-level Quran Recital here last night.
He said the government had always maintained a firm approach in nurturing the sanctity of Islam in the country.
This was undertaken through the monitoring of and measures against those who tried to undermine the sanctity of Islam, given the advent of deviant teachings which were not only detrimental to Muslims but also caused disunity, he said.
Mukhriz also said that the state government would ensure that the teaching and learning of the Quran would be continued by building more religious schools, including the Maahad Tahfiz.
He said the establishment in the country of the Maahad Tahfiz, which incorporated academic sessions, teaching of Arabic and Quran recital, was part of the efforts to promote memorising of the Quran.
The Quran Recital, carrying the theme ‘Unity, the Pulse of National Transformation’, has drawn 73 participants from 14 countries. – BERNAMA
