KUALA KETIL – The Kedah state government is confident of building 6,000 housing units annually to help support investment into the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said some houses will be build in rural areas to reduce the migration of people to urban areas.
We have to provide adequate housing to support the industrial parks. Investors are concerned about housing for the workers,” he told a press conference after handing over keys to houses in Taman Desa Bidara, here today.
Mukhriz said state government did not achieve the target for 2013 but its performance in 2014 was encouraging.
“In 2013, we only build 4,801 housing units in seven months. In 2014, we build 2,322 units while 10,595 more are awaiting approval bringing the total to 12,917 units. This is double than our target.”
The confidence was boosted by aid from government agencies such as Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) and 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA). – BERNAMA
