PETALING JAYA: Local entrepreneurs need to embrace technology to enhance their value, said International Trade and Industry Minister II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan (pix).

He said while the Government has aggressively embarked on economic transformation programmes leading to a high income nation, entrepreneurs play a vital role to achieve the target.

“The advancement of technology saw more and more industries being impacted.

“This is an era of disruption or being disrupted. Familiar examples are apps such as Uber and Grab that changed the taxi industry.

“These service providers are familiar with the demands of consumers and provide solutions to problems, thus successfully winning over the consumers.

“It has impacted the traditional business,” Ong said when launching Power-up Pocketimes at One City in Subang Jaya near here.

Power-up Pocketimes, a reinvention of Pocketimes that was launched in November 2014, was developed by Media Chinese International Limited (MCIL).

It is Malaysia’s first Chinese language web video platform.

MCIL and Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King said Power-up Pocketimes is part and parcel of MCIL Group’s ongoing transformation and a key initiative of mobile Internet and smartphone migration.

“The millennials born in the Internet age have become a new driving force of today’s consumer market.

“Young individuals are highly accustomed to the dynamic and interactive multi-screen modes of receiving and engaging a highly diversified cache of multimedia content.

“MCIL Group is resolved to embrace this irreversible trend and is prepared to tackle the challenges and needs,” he said.
