JOHOR BAHRU – Johor UMNO today decided that all posts in the party will be contested at the next party election.
Johor UMNO Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the decision was made at a meeting of the Johor UMNO Liaison Body this afternoon.
“We (Johor UMNO) agreed that all posts must be contested. To us, this is the opportunity for UMNO to undertake reformation and demonstrate the determination to change,” he told reporters after chairing the meeting.
Also present were the Johor UMNO Liaison secretary Datuk Md Jais Sarday, Johor UMNO Information Head, Datuk Samsolbari Jamali and Johor UMNO Wanita head Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain.
Mohamed Khaled hoped that those selected to become leaders would be able to undertake major changes to the party supported by the Malays.
“We want those elected to bring about changes and rebuild UMNO on a major scale…in terms of the organisation structure, operations, offers to the Malaysian people and the Malays. These were the things that we discussed and agreed upon today,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Khalid also announced that the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Benut who is also the Pontian UMNO Division head Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad would also be the Barisan Nasional (BN) Opposition Head in the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
Mohamed Khaled said, in this regard, he hoped the state government under the Pakatan Harapan would recognise and provide the best possible treatment to Hasni.
“As we all know, the Pakatan Harapan wants a two-party system in the country. As such, we hope they recognise and give the proper treatment to the Opposition Leader from the BN,” he added. – BERNAMA
