JOHOR BAHRU – The coronation of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, is a ceremony filled with historical values, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said by holding such a ceremony, it provided an opportunity for the young generation to know the historical values associated with the Johor Sultanate.
“For all of us, especially the new generation, they get a chance to watch the tradition and history of the Johor Sultanate, which certainly, has become the pride of the people, especially the people of Johor,” he told reporters after the ceremony today.
With the completion of the coronation ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim is now the fifth sultan of modern Johor, while Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah is crowned as the Permaisuri of Johor.
The last coronation ceremony was held 55 years ago on February 10, 1960 when Almarhum Sultan Ismail Sultan Ibrahim ascended the Johor throne.
Meanwhile in his Facebook, Najib expressed confidence that Johor would continue to progress and prosper under Sultan Ibrahim’s rule.
“My heartiest congratulations to DYMM Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah on their coronation as DYMM Tuanku Sultan Johor and Permaisuri Johor.
“May Johor Darul Takzim continue to progress and receive abundant blessings from Allah SWT. Daulat Tuanku,” said Najib. – BERNAMA
