JOHOR BAHRU – The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar expressed his grief over the fire which occurred at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here, yesterday.
He also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims who were killed in the fire.
“I am very saddened by the knowledge that six lives were lost in the fire at the Intensive Care Unit of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital this morning. On behalf of the people of Johor, I want to convey my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragedy,” he said.
In his posting on Facebook, he prayed that the family members remained strong in this difficult moments.
“I also pray that those who were injured would recover quickly,” he said, thanking all the hospital staff, members of the fire brigade, the police force as well as other agencies who worked hard to put out the fire, save lives and evacuate the patients.
Meanwhile, Johor UMNO Youth chief Hahasrin Hashim said its members would help the families of the victims and hospital staff.
Volunteers under the Youth wing or private companies who want to help physically or financially can contact the coordinator of the help programme, Pulai UMNO Youth head Sheikh Nafiq Alfirdaous at 019-7199949.
Johor Wanita UMNO head Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain said the movement through Skuad Sayang would provide initial aid in the form of drinks and snacks to the victims and hospital staff.
Barisan Nasional volunteers in the Pulai Parliamentary constituency have also been mobilised to help the victims.
