KUALA LUMPUR – Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar of Johor has given his consent to the awarding of a 28-hectare parcel of state land for the development of the JDT Sports City, according to FA of Johor (PBNJ) president Datuk Ismail Karim.
Ismail, in his latest posting on the official Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) Facebook account The Southern Tigers today, said JDT Sports City would be the home all types of sports under the JDT name.
“There will also be other facilities like a JDT Hotel, JDT Apartments anmd a JDT Shopping Mall,” he said.
Ismail, who is also Johor State Secretary, added that the Sultan had also agreed to provide some funding (amount not disclosed) to the JDT team to build a new stadium.
Its location is believed to be Nusajaya.
On Jan 10 last year, Sultan Ibrahim was reported to have agreed to provide RM50 million in funding to JDT for bringing football glory to Johor.
A few days later, the owner of The Southern Tigers Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim annunced an injection of RM50 million to the team to put it in a stronger financial position.
On Oct 31 last year, JDT created history by becoming the first Malaysian club to win the AFC Cup after edging FC Istiklol of Tajikistan 1-0 in the final.
