JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has allowed Sultanah Aminah Hospital to use the royal ward for patients after the intensive care unit (ICU) was badly damaged in Tuesday’s fire.
The Ruler said this when he visited the hospital following the incident which claimed the lives of six individuals.
Sultan Ibrahim arrived at the hospital from Mersing at 1.50pm and was briefed by various agencies and hospital staff on the incident.
Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah also visited the hospital at 12.30pm.
Meanwhile, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the incident was a lesson to the state authorities to ensure that similar tragedies did not happen.
“Other buildings within the HSA grounds are safe but we will let the Fire and Rescue Department investigate the cause of fire,” he said when met at the hospital.
On whether the fire would lead authorities to inspect other hospitals in the state, Mohamed Khaled said the main focus was to handle the matter at hand.
The Mentri Besar also announced an allocation of RM100,000 from the Johor Islamic Religious Council to aid all those affected by the incident.
“The state government will offer financial assistance if the need arises,” he said.
Earlier, Football club Johor Darul Ta’zim in a post on Facebook expressed its condolences to the families of the victims of the fire.
“May peace and strength be with the family members of the victims during this difficult time,” it said.
