JOHOR BAHRU – The Johor government today expressed its condolences to the family of former State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Ali Hassan, who passed away early this morning.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin described the death of the former Tebrau member of parliament, who was also a state exco, as a big loss to the state.
“He contributed tremendously to the state of Johor, particularly in the development of Islam and was a Tokoh Maal Hijrah Johor 1435,” said Mohamed Khaled in a statement here today.
Mohd Ali, 79, died at KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital here at 2.30am this morning due to heart complications. He left a wife, Misbah Sakat, 67, two sons, two daughters and 11 grandchildren.
He was State Assembly speaker from 2004 till 2013 and Johor Islamic Religious Council chairman from 1989 till 1990. – BERNAMA
