ISKANDAR PUTERI – The Johor government is determined to assist the federal government and all parties to provide quality education.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said, until now, three initiatives and intervention measures have been implemented in Johor.

“Firstly, for the acculturation of interest in Science, Mathematics and Technology (STEM), we allocated RM600,000 to conduct various related programmes. Secondly through the Johor Education Foundation (YPJ), we have set aside RM500,000 to carry out various programmes to strengthen proficiency in English to be on par with the national language,” he said at the launch of the 46th national level Teacher’s Day Celebrations at the Educity Sports Complex by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi here today.

Mohamed Khaled said for the third initiative RM800,000 had been allocated for the continuous development of 21st century education ecosystem in schools throughout the state.

He said, the three initiatives were implemented with the realisation that Malaysia’s competitiveness was at a critical stage and this was Johor’s contribution to the nation.

Mohamed Khaled stressed, schools that did not inculcate advanced skills, creative thinking, ability to manage diversity as well as intellectual agility would not assist the country’s aspirations to be a forerunner in global competition.

“Thus, it is important that needs are taken care to ensure that Malaysia continues to be a leading developing and success driven country which also possesses human capital capable of competing in the international sphere.

“The country’s main challenge is providing quality education which is on par with the best worldwide education. For me, education access is already universal in Malaysia and is moving towards becoming the best. Although there may be isolated cases, in general, our children are not left behind in receiving education,” he said.

Mohamed Khaled said he was aware that the Education Ministry worked hard to provide quality education and stressed that the state government should also give their cooperation, support and together take the initiative to impart quality education. – BERNAMA
