KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Football Association (Johor FA) President Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim yesterday questioned the selection of two players who were involved in alleged match fixing charges before.

Tunku Ismail who is also the Tunku Mahkota of Johor claimed that goalkeeper Azizon Abdul Kadir (currently playing for Police) had been slapped with a RM5,000 fine by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for alleged match-fixing.

Tunku Ismail said based on alleged telephone calls made by Mohd Muslim Ahmad who had once played for Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), he had links with loan sharks since he made calls to loan sharks after the match between JDT and Kelantan in Kota Baharu, last season.

“The question now is what is National coach Dollah Salleh thinking?. This is a very disturbing issue and indirectly shows weaknesses in the management.

“We truly need a coach who can evaluate players based on their performance and merit and not otherwise,” Tunku Ismail was quoted in JDT’s official website www.johorsoutherntigers.com.my.

Azizon who played for Kuala Lumpur was among 17 players hauled up by the FAM and issued a stern warning over allegations of fixing Premier League matches in 2012.

Sixteen other players in the list were Benedict Martin, Muhammad Syazwan Mohamed Rani, J. Mughilan Kartik, Muhamad Azwan Jatin, S. Sivaraj, Mohamad Amirul Asraf Mohd Noor, Ahmad Dashila Tajudin, Hishamuddin Othman, Mohd Badrul Hisyam Azmi, Muhamad Ar’ra’uf Roslee, Muhammad Hanis Mohtar, Muhammad Rafef Raya, Muhammad Syafiq Johari, Mohd Munir Amran, Muhammad Taufiq Mohd Shukor, Ahmad Jihad Ismail.

The FAM Disciplinary Committee had on Dec 20, last year banned five players for life and fined them RM20,000 each after finding them guilty of bribery and match-fixing.

The five were Fadhullah Yunsifar, Phoo Kai Lun, Khairul Anuar Shafie, Jeremy Danker and Hafizi Roslee.

Apart from the five, Kuala Lumpur head coach Stanislav Lieskovsky from Slovakia, assistant manager Rosli Omar and team official Saari Jani were also handed similar punishment and penalty. – Bernama
