NUSAJAYA – Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today refuted claims by certain quarters that Johor had copied idea of the Selangor Budget in the preparation of its budget, which was tabled last Nov 19.
He said Johor had never regarded Selangor as a comparison or a model.
Johor is in its own league and will be Malaysia’s new economic power, he added.
“It is amusing that after the 2016 Johor Budget was tabled, some people claimed that we (Johor) had copied or taken ideas from the 2016 Selangor Budget.
“Why do we have emulate Selangor for us to be the most advanced economy in Malaysia, when Singapore is just 20 minutes away from Johor Baharu,” he said when winding up the debate on the budget in the Johor state legislative assembly.
Mohamed Khaled said Johor had adopted the development and inclusive growth approach since the 2014 budget, way before any other states.
He said only those who refused to acknowledge the achievements of others would resort to giving superficial excuses in denying something good.
According to Mohamed Khaled, projects which had started off earlier would be continued and reinforced further with additional programmes, namely the Johor Affordable Homes, programmes to boost entrepreneurship and initiatives to address cost of living of specific groups such as fishermen and orphans. – BERNAMA
