Jerusalem: Trump Completes Balfour Declaration

KUALA LUMPUR – US president Donald Trump’s declaration of 2017 is no less dangerous than the 1917 Balfour Declaration, given the historical circumstances and political implications of both events, said the Congress of the Palestinian People Abroad.

In a press release issued by the congress through the Palestine International Forum for Media and Communication today, it said Trump had set a dangerous precedent in the history of international law and relations and in fact had completed implementation of the controversial Balfour Declaration, though a century later.

The Balfour Declaration was the first international historic recognition of the right of the Jews to a national homeland in Palestine, which resulted in the establishment of the Zionist occupation, and the 2017 Declaration refers to Trump’s decision on Dec 6 to “recognize the unified Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation state, and the transfer of the US embassy there.

“With the declaration, the United States has established itself as a substitute for the United Nations (UN) and the international community and has overturned resolutions and international legitimacy,” said the statement, quoting the Congress’ legal committee chairperson Mutaz Al-Masloukhi.

The congress said Trump’s statement represented the maximum and most accurate images of the American alignment of the Zionist occupation, which exceeded all borders and revealed the integration of the American Zionist in violation of international law.

The congress called upon the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop the American hegemony over the international resolution, preserve international legitimacy and to respect the provisions of the international law.

The congress views Trump’s statement as an official declaration of the end of the peace process, the undermining of the Oslo Accords and its annexes, and the declaration of a death certificate for the Arab initiative. – BERNAMA
