KUALA LUMPUR – Four-time Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have widen the gap in the table after thumping Negeri Sembilan 4-0 at Tunku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.
The bigger margin was partly contributed by the results between Pahang and Kedah who were tied 2-2 at Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.
JDT are now at the top of the table with 24 points from nine matches while Pahang are in second place six points behind followed by Perak who collected 16 points with match in hand and PKNS FC with 14 points.
Young national striker, Muhammad Safawi Rasid was the toast of the Southern Tigers when he scored two goals in the 62nd minute via a penalty and in the 73rd minute while Argentinian imports, Gonzalo Cabrera and La Vere Lawrence Corbin Ong netted a goal each in the fifth minute (penalty) and the 37th minute respectively.
The Elephants however failed to capitalise on their home ground when Kedah’s Brazilian striker helped the Red Eagles to equalise twice to share one point each.
Dollah Salleh’s boys opened the score through their Cambodian import, Vathanaka Chan in the 10th minute and Muhammad Safuwan Baharudin (39th minute) from Singapore before the Red Eagles equalised via Sandro in the 18th and 49th minutes.
Meanwhile, PKNC FC leapt two rungs to the fourth place in the chart after a 2-0 beating of Melaka United at Shah Alam Stadium, with goals by Brazilian striker Rafael Ramazotti in the 68th minute and former national striker, Mohd Safee Sali in the 78th minute.
Kelantan ended their four-match winless streak by crushing Kuala Lumpur 4-2 at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu.
The four goals of the Red Warriors were contributed by Nik Azli Nik Alias in the ninth minute, Shafiq Shaharudin (15th and 68th minutes) and Nik Akif Syahiran Nik Mat (88th minute ), while Kuala Lumpur reduced the deficit via Indra Putra Mahayuddin (79th minute) and Zhafri Yahya (90th minute).
In this regard, the sole Premier League match tonight saw the Malaysian Indian Football Association (MIFA) beat Penang 2-0 at the State Stadium in Batu Kawan with goals by their Liberian striker, Kpah Sean Sherman in the 63rd minute and 72nd minute. – BERNAMA
