SHAH ALAM – Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) rose to the occasion in the FA Cup final at the Shah Alam Stadium last night, said the Southern Tigers Head coach Mario Gomez.
He noted that his players’ endless efforts despite playing during the heavy downpour especially in the second half proved vital for the team’s success.
He acknowledged that the players conceded a mistake by allowing PKNS FC players to strike an early goal but was glad that they managed to put it behind them.
“Yes, we failed to score in the second half with many chances but I’m happy with the win. For me, sometimes we can score, sometimes we can’t, it all depends on the situation,” the Argentinian told the post- match press conference.
In tonight’s match, PKNS FC took an early lead through Gabriel Miguel Guerra’s penalty strike in the sixth minute before JDT equalised through skipper Safiq Rahim’s spot kick before Man-of-the-Match, Jorge Pereyra Diaz netted the winning goal in 35th minute.
Meanwhile, PKNS FC chief coach E. Elavarasan conceded the mistakes of his players who often roughed up the opposing players was the cause of their loss in the match.
He said the players also failed to check the relentless onslaught of the JDT attacking machinery which enabled the Southern Tigers to rise to record victory.
“Getting an early goal is good but the players were hardpressed by the moves of JDT and made a mistake to concede a penalty.
“As for the second goal, perhaps it should have been disallowed because the free kick was taken when the players were not ready. Nevertheless, we accept the decision of the referee,” said Elavarasan.
