JOHOR BAHARU – Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) marked the first victory in its 2015 Malaysia Cup campaign, defeating Perak 2-0 at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunus Stadium in Larkin, here last night.
Despite playing without captain and midfielder, Safiq Rahim, the players were still able to play a neat game, to take all three points at home.
The two goals for JDT were scored by Safee Mohd Sali in the 7th minute, and S. Chanturu, in the 21st.
Safee slotted in a ball from Chanturu, while the latter scored a stunning goal off a pass from Mahalli Jasuli.
Stunned by the two goals, Vjeran Simunic’s side tried to get back into the game, but Charles Souza Chad’s effort in the 28th minute hit the side of the post.
In the second half, the visitors were reduced to 10 men, after Mohd Hisyamudin fouled Gary Steven Robbat in the 89th minute.
Referee Syed Azhar Syed Kamar showed the red card to Mohd Hisyamudin, who had already received a yellow in the first half, for holding the ball.
The score remained the same until the final whistle.
After facing Perak, JDT, which has been placed in Group B, will play two away games, one against ATM at Stadium Tunku Abdul Rahman in Paroi on Sept 19, and the other against Sarawak at the Sarawak State Stadium on Sept 26.
