JOHOR BAHARU – Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) edge Penang 1-0 in a Super League match at Tan Sri Hassan Yunus Stadium Larkin, here last night.
The JDT goal was scored deep into injury time (94 minute) by striker Safee Sali who replaced Hariss Harun in the 79th minute.
The first half ended goaless although JDT mounted numerous raids on the Penang goal.
The best chance for JDT fell to Juan Martin Lucero in the 20th minute but he failed to connect a free kick taken by Aznie Taib.
Penang too had their chance when a shot by Mohd Failee Mohamad Ghazali in the 26th minute almost beat JDT goalkeeper Mohd Izham Tarmizi Roslan.
Lucero again came close to scoring in the 37th minute but his shot hit the goal post and went out.
The absence of skipper Safiq Rahim who was suspended after receiving a second yellow card against Kedah last month had weakened JDT.
The skipper’s armband went to defender Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abd Razak who succeeded in keeping the Penang strikers at bay.
With this win, JDT have 24 points after seven wins and three draws, behind Felda United who are also on 24 points but with more goals scored.
