KUALA LUMPUR – Defending champion, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) bounced back in style after thrashing Melaka United (MU) 3-0 in a Super League match at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin tonight.
The easy win saw the Southern Tigers forged ahead of the leader of the league, Terengganu FC with one point advantage after collecting nine points from four matches.
The opening goal for JDT took place in the 12th minute by Argentinian striker, Luciano Figueroa who headed the ball over MU goalkeeper, Zamir Selamat, after receiving a corner kick from captain Safiq Rahim.
The Southern Tigers continued to add salt to MU’s wound in the 21st minute when Jorge Pereya Diaz scored from the penalty box after receiving the ball from Figueroa to lead 2-0.
The team under Ulisses Morais confirmed a full point after Natxo Insa contributed JDT’s third goal in the 35th minute.
At the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras, Liberian striker, Francis Forkey Doe emerged as Pahang’s hero when he scored two goals to beat his former team, Selangor, with 3-1.
In the match, striker Patrick Cruz of Brazil opened scoring in the seventh minute during his first appearance with Pahang before Doe finished the second goal via a penalty kick in the 48th minute and another in the 71st minute.
Selangor’s consolation goal was awarded by Spain’s Ruffino Segovia through a penalty kick in the 38th minute.
At the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bahru, Kelantan finally ended its losing streak after beating Perak 3-2.
South Korean Do Dong-Hyun emerged as the The Red Warriors’ hero after scoring a hat-trick in the 67th, 76th and 87th minutes to allow the East Coast team to win for the first time in four matches.
Perak goals were scored by Mohd Norhakim Hassan in the 21st minute and Brazilian Wander Luiz Jr in the 68th minute.
Two other Super League matches will take place tomorrow between PKNP FC and Kuala Lumpur at the Batu Kawan Penang State Stadium, while PKNS FC and Kedah will play at the Shah Alam Stadium. – BERNAMA
