KANGAR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom today brushed off claims that the Malay girls who were involved in an “inappropriate” acts at a mini Korean pop (K-pop) concert in Kuala Lumpur recently, had been sentenced to a six months jail and fined RM1,000.

Describing the rumours circulating in social media as baseless, Jamil said there was no way for the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) to pass down the sentence while the girls were not even charged at the Shariah Court yet.

“I am baffled how the girls were sentenced because they are not even charged with any offense at the court.

“That is totally baseless information because we (Jawi) had decided to call the girls concerned to attend a counselling session to guide them on how to behave during a concert,” he said after attending state-level Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain (KAFA) class appreciation ceremony here today.

The controversy over the ‘inapproprioate’ acts erupted after a 3.21-minute video of the Korean pop band, B1A4 members hugging the girls from behind and kissing one of the girl’s forehead, gone viral in social media.

The video which was uploaded on Facebook page had gone viral and was shared more than 19,000 times and had over 13,000 comments from viewers.-NST
