MELBOURNE – A man who fled to Malaysia after killing his former boss at a noodle shop in Wagga Wagga, southern New South Wales has been jailed for at least sixteen and a half years, ABC News reported.
Wong Kin Yee, 29, stabbed Li Deng Cheng, 51, to death at Wagga Wagga’s Noodle Paradise store in September 2006.
Last month Wong was found guilty of murder by a Supreme Court jury in Griffith.
He was on Friday sentenced to 22 years’ jail with a non-parole period of 16 years and six months.
In handing down the sentence, Acting Justice Robert Shallcross Hulme took into account the emotional and financial strain placed on Li’s family following his death.
ABC News said Wong was arrested in Malaysia last year.
The court was told that the victim was found in a toilet of the store with multiple stab wounds.
Video footage from the store appeared to show Wong with a knife in his hand. After the stabbing, Wong took a train to Sydney and flew to Malaysia. – BERNAMA
