KUALA LUMPUR – Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) has successfully raised RM100,000 for the Syrian refugees, said its country director Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin.
He said the funds would be channeled to the refugees through Islamic Relief network worldwide.
“In addition to monetary donations, we offer them counseling sessions upon arrival at countries which have acccepted them, in terms of briefing them on the country’s law and in adapting to their new environment,” he told Bernama at a sacrificial ceremony held to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha with Rohingya community here today.
A total of five cows and five goats were contributed by Sime Darby Foundation, Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM) for the ceremony, held at Knowledge Garden Learning Centre (KGLC) in Seri Kembangan.
Some 200 people comprising members of Ethnic Rohingya Committee of Arakan (ECRA), IRM volunteers and partners attended the event. – BERNAMA
