KUALA LUMPUR – Irfan Faruqi Mohamad Fairuz from the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) emerged as champion in the the 2015 Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council Tithe Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) oratory competition, here today.
Irfan Faruqi, 20, a first year Bachelor of Syariah and Law student in USIM, beat seven other participants from other public universities and private institutions of higher learning in the competition which was held at the Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) and jointly organised by PPZ-MAIWP and UPNM.
He won a prize money of RM2,000, a certificate and a trophy. PPZ-MAIWP deputy chief executive officer, Abdul Hakim Amir Osman presented the prizes.
Second place was won by a student from University Malaya, Sharul Syafie Zariman, who won the RM1,500 prize money, a plaque and a certificate while Mohamad Akmal Aizat Umar from the International Islamic University of Malaysia won the third place, taking home RM1,00, a plaque and a certificate.
Abdul Hakim said the inaugural oratory competition was organised in conjunction with the 25th PPZ-MAIWP Silver Jubilee celebration and it is a platform to produce graduates with ideas on dakwah (missionary) work relating to tithes. – BERNAMA
