KUALA LUMPUR – Listening to Ir Radzi for the first time, one can’t help but compare his soulful voice with that of Indonesia’s successful singer Afgan.
That is a common reaction that will normally disappear when one listens deeper into the song.
The 32 year-old Kuching-born singer has an impressive track record, which proves that he possesses a talent that is uniquely his. Ir Radzi carved a name for himself back in his hometown in 2011 when he bagged several awards at the Anugerah Carta Borneo Era.
The well-mannered singer took home the Most Popular Song award, Most Popular Solo Artist/Band award and the Best New Artiste award through ‘Kontra Analisa’, written by Audi Mok and lyrics by Zel Firdhaus.
The song is also the Original Sound Track for two Malay TV dramas Noktah Cinta and Melodi Cinta Sarikei.
In 2012, Ir Radzi, whose real name is Mohamad Shah Riadzi Jamali, launched his second single, ‘Maafkan Aku’, a number written by Indonesian composer, Bemby Noor.
Bemby Noor also writes for popular singers Afgan and Sammy Simorangkir.
The collaboration continues this year with his third single entitled ‘Sempurna Waktu’, lyrics by the singer himself.
When asked about it at the launching ceremony of the single at Picknik, Publika here recently, he said: “Sempurna Waktu or Perfect Time talks about the experiences I gained in the music industry.
It’s about me, about my friends and the people who have influenced me and help me in my foray into the industry.”
When asked about his five-year plan, Ir Radzi shared: “I want to do the best of my ability. I would like to have a mini album and I am of course aiming for Anugerah Industri Muzik and Anugerah Juara Lagu, with the support from the media, of course.”
Looking ahead, he said that he would like to collaborate with other singers.
After three singles that have reached 13,000 views on YouTube, the singer who is under the management of Cloudworks Entertainment, is actively writing and producing new songs for his venture outside Sarawak.
‘Sempurna Waktu’, he hopes, will be a ticket for him to make a name in Indonesia. – Bernama
