KEMAMAN – The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry will help its agency, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) improve internet marketing of agricultural produce to become more efficient and comprehensive like other known platforms such as Mudah.my, Lazada.com, and Alibaba.com.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said internet marketing of agricultural produce was very practical and could help FAMA improve the economic status of farmers, breeders and fishermen like the Agrobazaar website www.agrobazaar.com.my.
He said the trend to trade online had grown and in other developed countries, the delivery of online purchases was not confined to dry goods, clothes and gadgets, but also included daily essentials.
“The idea is there, it is only how we can make it more efficient. For instance, globally, we know there is a system called Alibaba (alibaba.com) and
through this platform, they know how to advertise goods, the prices, the delivery and payment systems,” he said.
“Such internet platforms (like alibaba.com) must be studied so that in the future, FAMA can have its platform and create its own respected cyber supermarket where people can get all products,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters when met at the Kemaman Farmers’ Market Aidilfitri gathering at the Chukai Farmers’ Market site here today which was also attended by FAMA Chairman, Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin and state FAMA director Hasan Jusoh.
Ahmad Shabery said if FAMA’s internet platform is realised, it would be a symbol of success for the agency in boosting the economic status of the farmers, breeders and fishermen. – BERNAMA
