THE Indonesian victim of a shocking murder-suicide in Brisbane,Mayang Prasetyo,27, has finally been laid to rest in her hometown of Kelurahan Sukemenanti, Lampung, last Saturday.
The former social escort was buried as a male, and her tombstone was engraved with her birth name of Febri Ariansyah.
According to several Indonesian news sites, the funeral preparations were made 15 days before her body arrived, but the process went on not without a challenge.
While lowering the coffin, the pallbearers discovered that the grave could not accommodate the casket, so it had to be re-dug.
And the fact that her funeral was held well into the beginning of the monsoon season also complicated matters when the slippery earth made it difficult to to tread though the burial site. Calamity ensued when a few mourners almost tripped and fell into Mayang’s grave.
Meanwhile, Mayang’s mother Nining Sukarni said it was a relief to finally lay her eldest child to rest.
She thanked both Australian and Indonesian authorities who made the repatriation to Bandar Lampung a smooth process.
Mayang’s body was discovered dismembered in her Brisbane apartment last month.
The transgender woman’s Australian husband Marcus Volke, 27, fled the apartment when police arrived, and took his own life in a nearby industrial bin.
Police say he had tried to dispose of Mayang’s remains by boiling them on the stove, in what they can only surmise was a domestic violence situation that got terribly out of hand.
Mayang worked as an escort to support her family in Indonesia and put her two sisters through school.MYNEWSHUB
