Indonesian Aircraft With 54 People Goes Missing

JAKARTA – An Indonesian commercial aircraft, Tigana Air, carrying 54 people has been reported missing in the Papua region.

There were five crew members on board the Flight IL 267 aircraft when it took off at 2.21pm local time.

Local media reported the aircraft was scheduled to land at Oksibel Airport at 3.15pm.

Papua Police public relations division head, Rudolf Patrige was quoted as saying that when the aircraft did not turn up at the airport, the authorities confirmed that it had lost contact.

He said that based on the data obtained, the plane was carrying 44 adult passengers, three children and two infants.

The authorities had launched a search and rescue operation and a press statement would be released soon, he added. – BERNAMA
