KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was on the verge of tears as she apologised and defended her meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram in the Dewan Rakyat.
Nurul Izzah, who is PKR vice-president, was given the right to address the House after a motion was tabled to cite her to the Rights and Privileges Committee over the meeting.
“I regret and aplogise to all the victims of Lahad Datu, Sabahans and all Malaysians because of my photograph,” she said, adding that she had learned her lesson from the incident.
The photograph of her with Kiram taken during a visit to Manila to rally for her father, datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to be freed from jail was criticised by many quarters.
Nurul Izzah remained calm as she addressed the House, controlling herself from breaking down in tears.
She stressed that as a member of parliament, she has sworn allegience to “defend the flag” and was willing to work with the Government with regards to Sabah.
The motion was tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and supported by Datuk Rosnah Shirlin (BN-Papar).
Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia allowed five Oppostion and four Barisan Nasional MPs to debate the motion.
