KUALA LUMPUR – The 1Malaysia Taxi Assistance Card will be activated immediately once they have been collected by taxi drivers to buy petrol and NGV at any Petronas station in the country, says Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
On rumours by angry drivers who claimed the cards would only be distributed and activated after the general election, SPAD said thousands of taxi drivers had collected and used their cards after it was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on April 13.
“All the cards were activated as soon as they were collected by the drivers,” the commission said in a statement today.
The statement also said that if the allegations continued to be disseminated, SPAD would not hesitate to lodge a police report so that the perpetrators would be investigated by the authorities.
SPAD also said taxi drivers did not have to worry as it had prepared 67,000 cards and they have until July 16 to collect the cards from any SPAD branch offices.
“As for taxi drivers in Sabah and Sarawak, the time and date for them to collect the cards will be announced soon by the respective state Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board,” it said. – BERNAMA
