KUALA LUMPUR – Winning the silver medal in the badminton mixed doubles event at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in Brazil is a precious gift to Chan Peng Soon family.

Peng Soon’s wife, Cham May May said it had always been her husband’s dream to achieve Olympic glory and that she wanted to see Peng Soon achieve further successes in his career.

She noted that their children, Hannah, 10, and Milton, five, would be very excited and happy whenever they watched their father in competition.

“They are very proud of their daddy. It is a big achievement. I’ve seen him putting so much effort along the way…What he had to go through and now he has finally brought back glory. He made his dream come true.

“I’m so proud of him. We’re lucky to have a perfect man like him and he is also the greatest father to the children,” May May told Bernama when contacted today.

Malaysia’s feverish hopes for its first-ever gold medal in the Olympics through the badminton’s mixed doubles ended when Peng Soon and his partner Goh Liu Ying crumbled in the final on Wednesday.

The highly-spirited duo’s dream of striking gold remained just that when they went down to world third ranked Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia in 21-14, 21-12.

After the match, Peng Soon thanked his wife and children for their unwavering support despite having to be away from home for prolonged periods. – BERNAMA
