KUALA LUMPUR: Police will not get involved in the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) forfeiture lawsuits over funds allegedly siphoned from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police do not get involved in civil proceedings.
“This is a civil procedure, we will not get involved.
“We will wait and see the developments in the civil process and if there is anything for us to follow-up on, then we will act,” he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of duties ceremony at Pulapol here Monday.
He said police are only concerned in criminal matters and not civil issues.
“If there was a criminal element, the DOJ would have proceeded with criminal provisions.
“But they did not find any (criminal) offence so they went with civil provisions,” he said, adding that he has advised police officers involved in 1MDB investigations to stay focused on the recommendations of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Cabinet.
