KLANG – Who will be sworn in as the new Selangor Menteri Besar on Tuesday (June 19) is still a mystery.
Journalists had gathered at Istana Alam Shah here Monday (June 18) morning in anticipation of a rehearsal of tomorrow’s swearing-in ceremony, but nothing seemed to be happening as at press time.
Another group of journalists had also made their way to Istana Bukit Kayangan anticipating the new mentri besar to have an audience with Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
However, incumbent mentri besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic) appeared to have had an audience with Sultan Sarafuddin, which ended just before noon.
Azmin will officially relinquish the mentri besar’s postion on Tuesday before his replacement is sworn in.
According to sources the contenders for the position are Sungai Tua assemblyman Amirudin Shari, 38, and Ijok assembyman Dr Idris Ahmad.
Dr Idris is a successful gynaecologist with a thriving private practice, whilst firebrand Amirudin is an executive councillor in the Selangor state government.
Amirudin is seen as Azmin’s protege while Dr Idris is PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s preferred candidate. – The Star Online
