IPOH – The Ipoh Tree which was uprooted due to heavy rain and strong winds on April 28, was replanted by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir at Dataran Stesen Keretapi Tanah Melayu here today.
The tree-planting ceremony was also witnessed by Perak Health, Public Transportation, Non-Islamic Affairs, National Integration committee chairman Datuk Mah Hang Soon; Women and Family Development, Social Welfare, Housing and Local Government committee chairman Datuk Rusnah Kassim; as well as city mayor Datuk Zamri Man.
Zambry noted that the replanting of the iconic tree which the city was named after was crucial as it possessed historical value.
“I hope that the three-year-old planted tree will flourish under the care of the Ipoh City Council personnel and continue to be an icon of the city.
“I also urge MBI to continue its efforts in beautifying the city, highlighting its national identity to tourists by planting more local trees, ensuring the cleanliness of the city and addressing weaknesses found,” he told reporters at a press conference after the replanting ceremony.
The previous Ipoh Tree was planted by seventh Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Mohamed Wan Teh in conjunction with the Ipoh Rotary Club’s 50th anniversary on Jan 18, 1980. – BERNAMA
