KUALA LUMPUR – Former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir told the High Court here today that it was his desire to be a leader, but not through a “secret pact” as claimed by former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president said everyone in the political arena desired to be a leader, including as prime minister, but the desire had to be from a pure heart because the responsibility to be shouldered would be a huge trust on the country.
Mukhriz, 53, who is Ayer Hitam assemblyman, said this in a witness statement that was produced in court on the first day trial of his suit against Abdul Aziz in connection with a claim that there was a secret pact between him (Mukhriz) and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.
“ In whatever situation, if I have a desire to be Prime Minister, the intention and aspiration cannot be made the basis or justification for the defendant to claim that there is a secret deal or secret pact between (my father Tun) Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) and Kit Siang to make me the Prime Minister and Kit Siang as Deputy Prime Minister,” he said.
Mukhriz filed the suit on Feb 7 last year, claiming that Abdul Aziz, had on Dec 30, 2016, made a defamatory statement, with the title “‘Memang Wujud Pakatan Sulit antara Tun Mahathir dan Kit Siang” which was reported by the AIDCNews blog. – BERNAMA
