KUALA PERLIS – The Perlis state government is working hard to build at least three hotels in Kuala Perlis and Kangar to meet the demand particularly from tourists.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said the target was based on the potentials for tourist arrivals in line with the state government’s plan to develop the water sports sector.
He said the first program was the Perlis Water Carnival in Kuala Perlis and the Inland Water Sports at the Timah Tasoh Dam in April and March next year.
“The programs will be listed in the Tourism Calendar of the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture 2015 and implemented with the support of central government agencies in conjunction with the birthday celebrations of the Raja of Perlis every year,” he told reporters, here
Azlan disclosed this when approached after the symbolic launching of the Kuala Perlis Traditional Water Festival 2014 at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) Complex, here last night.
He said the state government would continue to urge the federal government to build a runway at least for a small aircraft to support the strategy for state development.
On the Kuala Perlis Traditional Water Festival on Nov 15 and 16 at the Kuala Perlis LKIM Complex, he said the program, which was last held in 2009, was stopped due to the lack of allocation.
He said the program involved fishermen in Kuala Perlis and was fully funded by the Perlis Office of the Malaysian Tourism and Culture Ministry and would be turned into an annual event after this. – BERNAMA
