BALIK PULAU – Health Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya is ready to defend the Balik Pulau parliamentary seat which was won by the Barisan Nasional (BN) in 2013.
The incumbent who has contested in six general elections, said he was prepared to defend the parliamentary seat for the sake of the people in Balik Pulau.
“If given the mandate by the Prime Minister, I am ready to defend the Balik Pulau parliamentary constituency. I am ready, we can contest again if chosen,” he told reporters after officiating the 1Malaysia Maintenance Fund (TP1M) project in Taman Desa Genting here today.
Hilmi said he was ready to contest but would leave it to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to decide if he should contest for his seventh general election.
In 2008, the Balik Pulau seat was won by PKR’s Mohd Yusmadi Mohd Yusoff but Dr Hilmi managed to wrest the seat back with a majority of 1,539 votes in 2013, against PKR’s Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik. – BERNAMA
