JERANTUT: Helicopter and boats will be deployed to evacuate some 120 staff and holidaymakers, stranded at Mutiara Resort Taman Negara here after Sungai Tembeling overflowed its banks yesterday.
A district Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said boats will also be sent to transfer the victims, including some 80 tourists to the nearby SK Kuala Tahan. He added the Navy and Fire Department helicopters will be deployed to airlift victims to Jerantut Hospital.
The evacuation process has yet to start as it is still raining heavily in Jerantut
The resort workers and guests were stranded after the river burst its banks resulting the surrounding areas to be inundated with water up to one-meter-deep.
They were forced to remain at the resort as the roads leading to Jerantut town were also cut off by floods.
“Extraordinary rainfall” in Taman Negara over the past few days has resulted several low-lying areas including the main jetty in Kuala Tahan to be submerged and all activities have been temporarily suspended.MYNEWSHUB
