KUALA LUMPUR – Slander-oriented divisional and hate politics and those that promote extremism will have deep impact on party followers and supporters, said Puteri UMNO leader Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
She said it was easy to incite hatred and create divisions as it could be through speeches at public places and conversations in coffee-shops.
“The present political situation in Malaysia shows a syndrome of divisional and hate politics which seems to be the basic struggle of opposition parties,” she said in her policy speech at the opening of the Puteri Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.
Speaking in front of the 977 delegates from the movement, Mas Ermieyati said it would require knowledge, creativity and innovation, as well as discipline and maturity to promote politics of progress and prosperity.
She said differences in politics and opinions should not be made an excuse for any quarters to act as they please.
“What is the use of being called a leader when we only create divisions and failed to unite,” she added.
Mas Ermieyati, who is Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister called on Puteri UMNO members to uphold solidarity in the party.
“Without solidarity, UMNO and Puteri UMNO will be weak. In the long term, UMNO will crumble.
“Let not, because of some minor weaknesses of our leaders, we cross the line to bring them down,” she said to an applause from delegates.
Three UMNO Supreme Council members – Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Datuk Seri Hasan Malek and Datuk Sohaimi Shahadan — were observers at the meeting.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also spent some time to observe the proceedings at the Puteri UMNO assembly. – BERNAMA
