KANGAR – Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man has that recommended the harumanis mango growers in the state set up an association to manage the marketing aspect of the fruits.
He said the claims that Perlis harumanis mango had been difficult to sell due to the fasting month was not serious as it only involved new farmers.
“For established farmers there was no problem as they already have their own marketing networks and regular customers,” he told reporters when asked to comment on the allegations that growers found it difficult to sell the fruits.
He was met after launching the #Malaysia ‘Ngaji’ (recital) programme at the Alwi Mosque here today.
Azlan said the prices of harumanis mango did not drop as badly as claimed on social media as the fruits were still priced between RM25 and RM30 per kilogram.
“The problem now is the new farmers who do not know how to market their harvest. Hence, setting up an association is timely now, to help coordinate in marketing the fruits,” he said.
Azlan, however, was satisfied with the role played by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) to help marketing Perlis harumanis despite being accused of buying the fruits at lower prices. – BERNAMA
