KUALA LUMPUR – Activist Haris Ibrahim has been found guilty and sentenced to eight months jail for making seditious remarks during a speech he made three years ago

Sessions Court judge Shamsudin Abdullah said he had taken into consideration the need for the punishment and was satisfied that the words used by the accused during the forum on May 13 had a tendency to topple the democratically elected government.

The lawyer was charged under Section 4 of the Sedition Act in 2013 which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 and a maximum three-year jail term upon conviction.

The forum was held at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
