KUALA LUMPUR – Harimau Malaya’s showing at the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup in Singapore and Vietnam from Nov 22-Dec 20 may decide the future of head coach Dollah Salleh.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah wanted Dollah to taste success at Asean’s premier football tournament.
“We expect success this time. Dollah Salleh’s position will be scrutinised if it did not materialise. I hope head coach Dollah Salleh will ensure that the team is ready.
“Emphasis must be given to fitness and focus of the players,” he said after launching the Asian Cup 2015 Ball Handover at a hotel here, today.
Malaysia are drawn in Group B with Suzuki Cup defending champions Singapore and three-time champions Thailand.
Meanwhile, Tengku Abdullah said the FAM will reassess the Harimau Muda team who fared poorly at the Incheon Asian Games in South Korea.
“We must diversify the grassroots programme. The results show the weakness of the coach and the players.
“The FAM will review the team’s training programme abroad to see whether it is worth it or not? Development programmes will be continued as we must invest.”
The Harimau Muda squad of coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee failed to reach the quarter-finals target at the Asiad and exited at the group stage. – BERNAMA
