KOTA KINABALU- The first day of Raya celebrations in Sabah, expected to be held tomorrow, will see open houses being hosted by the Sabah Police Commissioner and the Indonesian Consulate General here.

Datuk Ramli Din will host his open house from 9am to 11am at his official residence at the Sabah Police Contingent headquarters in Kepayan.

The Indonesian Consul-General in Kota Kinabalu Krishna Djelani, will host his open house at Wisma Indonesia in Tanjung Aru from 1pm to 4pm.

This year Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin will host the open house at Istana Negeri on the second day of Hari Raya.

The VVIP session which will include the Sabah administration’s top leadership will be held from 10am to 11.30am, while the public will be able to attend from 11.30am to 1pm.

On the third day of Hari Raya which is on Sunday, the Sabah Cabinet led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal will host their open house at the Menara Tun Mustapha compound here.

This would be the first Aidilfitri open house hosted by the Shafie-led cabinet, which will also see a change of venue from the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas, where it is usually held every year.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sembakong after inspecting the open house preparations at the location today said the new setting could promote Sabah further to visitors and tourists alike during the event, and expose the Menara Tun Mustapha building –also known as Yayasan Sabah building – to the people.

“I believe there are Sabahans, especially the youngsters from outside of town, who have not been to this building. This is one way we can promote it,” he told reporters.

When asked whether the state cabinet has extended invitations to former government ministers under the previous leadership of Tan Sri Musa Aman, he said all – including opposition members – are welcome.

“Yes, we invited them. This is Hari Raya and we should put aside political differences.

“I hope to see them. After all this is Sabah,” he told reporters, adding that they should celebrate the occasion with the spirit of togetherness that the state is famous for.

Thousands are expected to convene at the venue on Sunday, where Juhar will also appear as guest of honour.

The state cabinet Aidilfitri open house will start from 10am to 1pm, where visitors can expect to be entertained by music and will be served with traditional Hari Raya delicacies.- New Straits Times
